PEN’s Alignment with
Global and Continental Goals
To ensure our work drives systemic, long-term change, we have rigorously mapped our programming against three world-class strategic frameworks: The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the African Union’s Continental Education Strategy for Africa (CESA 16-25), and the AU Science, Technology, and Innovation Strategy for Africa (STISA-2024).
1. Global Impact: The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
PEN has achieved 84% overall alignment with the SDGs.
- Quality Education (SDG 4): This is our core mandate. We train teachers in hands-on pedagogy to improve learning outcomes.
- Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10): PEN’s low-cost model is easily implemented in underserved public schools, ensuring high-quality STEM is accessible to everyone. PEN’s experiential teaching methods also produce stronger learning gains for girls, addressing socio-cultural barriers that prevent girls from fully participating in STEM
- Partnerships (SDG 17): Our model thrives on collaboration, linking governments, development agencies, the private sector, and academia to scale education reform.
2. Continental Focus: CESA 16-25
The African Union’s CESA framework is our direct regional anchor, where we maintain 80% alignment.
- Revitalizing the Teaching Profession: We empower teachers through professional development and a digital asynchronous platform, making the profession more effective and tech-enabled.
- STEM & Scientific Culture: We develop practical activities directly mapped to national syllabi, moving science from textbooks to "hands-on" inquiry.
3. Innovation Leadership: STISA-2024
PEN contributes to building Africa’s "science culture" from the ground up, currently sitting at 70% alignment with the AU’s innovation strategy.
- Technical Competencies: By stimulating interest in STEM early, we have seen a 141% improvement in student attitudes toward science and technology.
- Innovative Infrastructure: Our approach, using locally available materials, is a direct response to the lack of traditional laboratories. We have turned "no-lab" environments into hubs of innovation.
